Reflection On the Course

Reflection on The Course Education Technology

"WE DO NOT LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE WE LEARN FROM                                                           REFLECTING ON EXPERIENCE"

It is important for one to reflect. Reflection is very vital when it comes to the learning process. It allows us to learn more about ourselves and how we learn, but it also aids us in proving academic skills. When we reflect we are able to see areas where we are weak in and areas where we are strong  and then after we will be able to work on the areas where there are weakness and focus less on the strong point. Reflection allows you to look back and see what you could have done better hence, the reason for its importance in the education system.

I started the course Education Technology in January 2020. During this course I've faced different challenges and the reason for this is because i believed that i was not "technologically savvy". This course introduced to me various tools that can be incorporated inside the classroom when bringing forth a lesson. It opened my eyes to the fact that although the olden days of chalk and board is important, in today's society we have to move forward with technology in the class because we are living in a technological era and the millennial  gravitate to technology and so in order to enforce effective teaching and effective learning we have to resort to materials that will grab the students attention, that will keep them engage, that will cause interaction but that will also allow them to perform magnificently when it comes to academics.

During the course i was able to developed collaborative skills, problem solving skills, hands on skills and attitudinal skills. Professionally, i can say that in the future this will be beneficial  as i will be able to use these skills garnered through the course to integrate technology in the content area of history and social studies. The education technology course introduced me to educational websites, blogs, web-quests and wikis it also taught me how to develop power points that are interactive.

The Education Technology course introduced me to ISTE NETS Standards. This speaks to the fact that effective teachers model and apply the ISTE for students as they design, implement and assess learning experience to engage students and improve learning. What i have garnered from the the ISTE NETS is that the teacher should facilitate and inspire their students learning. As such, they can do so by giving support and model creative and innovative thinking. They can also engage their students in exploring real world issues assist them in solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. The ISTE NETS also highlights that facilitators should ensure that they collaborate with students, peers, parents and community members using digital tools and resources to support students success and innovation.

I was given the chance to partake in the development of, ensuring learning and teaching entails technology and so some task that were given to me are: the development of a web quest, podcast and  wiki (google docs). This was a learning process and it was not easy when it came to the  completion of the web-quest as i  had to start over. The problem i faced is that when i clicked on the link for web quest that i placed on my blog (digital portfolio) it was not taking me to the web quest and so i and to take a break and then  try and find out where i went wrong. To my surprised i shared the wrong link to my blog. When i was doing the podcast recording was the easiest part. When it came to hyperlinking the podcast so that i could place it in my digital portfolio on my blog i faced numerous challenges. I asked around for assistance but i did not get any and so i got frustrated. In order to fully develop my podcast so that it can be accessible i had to resort to the famous YouTube for help. After assistance from YouTube i turned the podcast into a zip file and then i sent it too google docs and google docs gave me the opportunity where i could share my link or make my link public to others.

The completion of my final project for the course was very time consuming but it was worth it as i have learnt alot of things about technology and i have also learnt new things about myself while completing it and that is, the level of determination i have when i want to get something done. When i reflect i can say that somethings i would have change is having more patience when completing my assignments and pay more attention in class. Another thing i would changed based on what i have gathered after reflecting is that i should start my work a bit more early so that i will have sufficient time to think.

The course Education Technology had an impact on me both personally and professionally and so with the information that was learnt throughout the course and that was learnt from the ISTE NETS i can say that when it comes to incorporating technology in my content area of history and social studies ( in the classroom) i will have first hand knowledge and so i will be bale to do so effective and efficiently. The onus is now on me to continue to learn more about technology and different technologies that i can use inside my classroom to enhance the students academic performances.

Personal Philosophy

                 Education Technology Philosophy

" Enhancing Education Through The Utilization Of Technology"

Education technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performances by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological process and resources.        In the school, education technology is the use of technology and technological processes to facilitate learning and improve performance.  M. D Roblyer defines education technology as “a combination of the processes of tools involved in addressing educational needs and problems, with an emphasis on applying the most current tools: computers and other electronic technologies”.
Technology is in our hand. As such, my education technology philosophy is to guide and nurture the students in a way that will allow them to utilize the technology that is in their palm in a productive way that will allow them to acquire the necessary knowledge they need. . Also, to use technology to help the students develop a love for learning by incorporating different technological resources that are meaningful and significant to any lesson being taught.  Educational technology simply means that tools (technological tools) are used in order to solve a given problem in education.

As the facilitator my aim is to teach, guide and give the students tips on how they can use the different technology that they have in order to solve their education problem. Students view facilitators as role models, as the facilitator when teaching a given topic different technological tools will be integrated as a medium to bring information forward to the students. By doing this, the students will be motivated to use technology to help them solve their educational problems as this is something they see their facilitator practice. This will increase performances.
Danny Mareco postulated that “education technology is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles. It also gives the students the opportunity to enhance the interaction with their classmates and instructors by encouraging collaboration”.
In a nut shell my educational technology philosophy is to utilize a variety of technology to help students work smart instead of working hard but to also show them that learning can be interactive and fun.
